FITS Center launches at Carmen Surigao del Sur

The Local Government of Carmen, Surigao del Sur launched its own FITS center on October 12, 2018   spearheaded by the Agricultural Training Institute -Regional Training Center CARAGA. The said event was attended by the town’s Municipal Vice Mayor, Hon.Teofila G. Cabatuan, the provincial agriculturist, Mr. Mark Quico the university president, Dr. Baceledes R. Estal and partner agency representatives. Since Carmen is the adopted municipality of the extension services of Surigao del Sur State University, the university president officially launched the center. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the university president delivered his message. The content of his message gave emphasis on education and the extension programs the university has. He also encouraged the farmers to bring their children to SDSSU. On the other hand, the Vice Mayor expressed her hopes and gratitude for the success of the event and for the presence of the invited dignitaries. She was also thankful for having their FITS center wherein constituents can avail its services. Likewise, the provincial agriculturist urged the farmers present to use the FITS Center and disseminate the words about it. He added that the backbone of our Nation are the farmers. Accordingly, the OIC-Center Director, ATI Regional Office discussed that the FITS Center is part of the extension modality known as the Techno Gabay Program initiated by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD). In 2012 the TGP was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and is now being implemented by the Agricultural Training Institute. The TGP aims to enhance the extension services of the municipal and provincial agriculture offices in the country with emphasis on the generation, adoption, and promotion of science-based technologies at the farmers ‘level.
