North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU)-Cantilan Campus formally launches the Infinity Binary Operation Game (IBOG) in collaboration with the Heirs of Cosme Y. Sering, sealing the initiative through a ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing at the NEMSU Cantilan Hotel, August 29.
This event highlights the NEMSUโs continuing pursuit of research, innovation, and sustainable development, with the IBOG project being hailed as a milestone in merging education, technology, and community engagement.
In his presentation, Associate Professor Reinar A. Acevedo, project proponent and developer of IBOG, introduces the game as a mathematics-based board game designed to address learning gaps in rational number operations and common misconceptions about infinity. โI call it infinity because the highlight of this game is about infinity โ a concept often foreign to learners. This board game transforms abstract mathematical concepts into a fun, meaningful, and engaging learning experience,โ he explains.
Key university officials, including Dr. Rolly G. Salvaleon (VP for Research) and Dr. Maria Lady Sol A. Suazo (VP for Academic Affairs), join representatives from the HCYS family in the launching ceremony. Their collective message underscores the universityโs commitment to supporting projects that blend scholarship and innovation.
โThis initiative is powerful in purpose because it addresses studentsโ difficulties in learning mathematics. It proves that even the hardest concepts can be learned when introduced in a more meaningful and engaging way,โ Dr. Salvaleon states, adding his encouragement to digitalize the board game to broaden its reach.
One of the highlights of the MOA signing is the announcement of an annual โฑ50,000 prize sponsorship from the heirs of the late Cosme Y. Sering. This pledge supports yearly IBOG tournaments, boosting the gameโs popularity and creating opportunities for learners and enthusiasts in the surrounding communities.
The event marks the beginning of IBOGโs development toward production and commercialization but reflects NEMSUโs vision of becoming a leading research institution that advances technology and innovation for sustainable growth.
As the ceremony concludes with messages of commitment and a call for collaboration, the IBOG project stands as a symbol of how creativity, research, and partnerships can pave new ways of learning.
