Quezon City — September 1, 2025 The House of Representatives’ Committee on Higher and Technical Education (CHTE) is currently holding its Organizational and First Regular Committee Meeting at the Speaker Belmonte Hall, South Wing Annex, Batasang Pambansa Complex.
Among the measures in today’s agenda is House Bill No. 2888, which seeks the establishment of a College of Medicine at the North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU). The bill is principally authored by Surigao del Sur First District Representative Romeo S. Momo Sr.
NEMSU officials VPAA Maria Lady Sol A. Suazo and Executive Assistant Mick Mars Silvano, led by University President Dr. Nemesio Loayon, are in attendance to express their support and readiness to provide inputs on the proposed measure. The university has conveyed its deep gratitude to the CHTE, chaired by Hon. Jude Acidre, for including HB 2888 in the committee discussions, recognizing it as a significant step toward advancing accessible medical education in Caraga and beyond.
If passed into law, the measure will pave the way for the training of future doctors in Mindanao, helping to address the shortage of medical professionals in underserved areas and strengthening the delivery of health services in the region.
