NEMSU Academic Community convenes for System-wide Curriculum Enhancement

With a focus on streamlining and unifying the course syllabi across programs, executives and faculty members from all campuses of North Eastern Mindanao State University assembled inside the Audio-Visual Center for the launching of the 2-day Curriculum Enhancement, August 17-18, 2023.

Dr. Erwin Berry, the Director for Curriculum Development, sparked the discussion as he delivered an overview of the procedures in developing an outcomes-based syllabus, along with the statement of purpose to set the tone for the academic convergence.

Moreover, University President Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon, duly represented by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Maria Lady Sol Suazo, expressed the pivotal role of this activity to ensure that the students can satisfy the expected competencies upon graduation.

โ€œThe university president, Dr. Loayon, is very much confident that this activity will proceed to the right direction, and this is really a very opportune time for all of us because it will also help us grow professionally,โ€ the VPAA affirmed. Some of the salient subjects of discussion were the various concerns raised by the teaching faculty, including the universality of teaching methods, the time needed to construct syllabi, and the potential implementation of the new syllabi in the second semester of the academic year.

Consequently, one significant solution proposed during the event was the revision and unification of the old curriculum. This approach suggests that rather than starting syllabi from scratch, the university should focus on refining and aligning the current curriculum to meet modern educational standards. One unified syllabus per program is expected to be the outcome by the end of the two-day gathering, reshaping the academic experience in the university in favor of a more harmonized curricular foundation.
