On October 14, 2024, North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) held the culmination of the project titled "Empowering Fisherfolk on Effective Caulerpa Racemosa (Lato) Farming while Protecting the Marine Environment" at the Aquatic Science Building, Lianga Campus. University President Prof. Nemesio G. Loayon emphasized the importance of this project in advancing sustainable livelihoods for fisherfolk while promoting marine biodiversity conservation in Lianga’s Mariculture Park.

The project, which is part of NEMSU’s broader agenda on "industry and commercially-driven research and innovation" and "community-responsive extension services," provided local fisherfolk with sustainable farming techniques for Caulerpa Racemosa (Lato). This effort aligns with the University’s goal of fostering disaster-resilient and climate-adaptive research in fisheries and environmental conservation. The project not only improves the livelihoods of fisherfolk but also ensures that marine resources are sustainably managed.

President Loayon highlighted the University's commitment to making Lianga a Research Center for Marine and Ecosystem studies. The project represents a successful knowledge-sharing initiative, contributing to economic empowerment and environmental protection through collaboration with local government units and key stakeholders like the Department of Science and Technology.
