Tandag City, January 31, 2025 โ North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) successfully conducted the โHIV-AIDS 101 and Testingโ event at the Ground Floor of the Administration Building, NEMSU Tandag Campus. The initiative was spearheaded by the Office of the University President in collaboration with Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center (ASTMMC) and the City Health Office of Tandag.
The educational and health awareness activity aimed to promote a deeper understanding of HIV-AIDS and encourage proactive testing among the NEMSU community. The resource speaker for the event was Mr. Paolo Alberto A. Martinez, RPm, from ASTMMC, who provided essential insights on HIV prevention, treatment, and the importance of early testing.
Adding star power and advocacy to the event was Miss Universe Philippines-Siargao, Ms. Millien Joy Montenegro Cabigas. She delivered an inspiring message highlighting her advocacy on HIV awareness, stressing the need for inclusive education and community involvement in addressing health concerns. Her presence added motivation to participants, especially students, to be health-conscious and informed advocates within their own circles.
The program commenced with the opening remarks delivered by Dr. Evelyn T. Bagood, OIC Campus Director of NEMSU Tandag. Dr. Mick Mars P. Silvano, Executive Assistant III, presented the event rationale, emphasizing the significance of raising awareness about HIV-AIDS to foster a healthier, informed campus environment.
In his message, Dr. Nemesio G. Loayon, SUC President III, highlighted the universityโs commitment to supporting health and wellness initiatives that align with its mission of promoting holistic development among students, faculty, and staff.
The event culminated in an engaging forum where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify misconceptions about HIV-AIDS. Free and confidential HIV testing was also offered to attendees, further underscoring the health-centric approach of the activity.
In closing, Dr. Abundio C. Miralles, Vice President for Administration and Finance, expressed gratitude to the event partners and encouraged the community to continue participating in health awareness campaigns.
